Red-Light Therapy Benefits

Red light therapy may be beneficial because it boosts production of ATP which may enhance healing, because it can also reduce inflammation, it may help conditions like arthritis and acne. Red light may also help decrease signs of aging by replenishing the collagen in your skin.
  • REDUCE INFLAMATION

In certain studies, red light therapy has been shown to help reduce inflammation by decreasing levels of inflammation-causing molecules called pro-inflammatory cytokines.

  • IMPROVE ACNE

Light-based and laser therapies are often used to treat acne because the light can penetrate deep within the skin.

Red light targets your sebaceous glands — small ducts that release a pore-clogging, acne-causing oil called sebum. The effect of the light helps reduce inflammation within those sebaceous glands, which may improve the appearance of acne.

  • DECREASE SIGNS OF AGING

Your skin is primarily made of collagen, a protein that prevents it from sagging and keeps it looking and feeling plump. While the body naturally produces collagen, sun exposure, smoking, pollution exposure, and aging decrease production, causing skin to lose elasticity and appear to sag and wrinkle.

A 2014 study found that full-body exposure to red light over the course of 30 twice-a-week sessions increased collagen density on participants' faces and caused visible improvements in wrinkles and skin roughness.

  • REDUCE PAIN FROM ARTHRITIS

Red light therapy could help reduce pain from a couple of types of arthritis. Recent human studies are limited. One small study from 1992 found that red light therapy led to a more than 50% reduction in arthritis pain in patients with degenerative osteoarthritis in both knees.

  • BOOST METABOLISM

Red light therapy boosts metabolism. When the body is starved of oxygen and nutrients, it increases metabolism to compensate for the deficit. Since red light therapy improves circulation, it also activates the body’s metabolic system. It improves oxygen delivery to the muscles and thus stimulates muscle movement.

  • IMPROVE SKIN

The most known use and benefit of red light therapy is skin rejuvenation. Red light therapy devices are most often used as facial light therapy machines. Over the past decade, research has shown significant improvements in the appearance of the skin in response to red light. This includes faster and more extensive regeneration, reduced wrinkles, and improved elasticity. Red light therapy can also help treat acne scarring. It penetrates below the skin’s surface to help soothe and repair tissue. Red light therapy also enhances the effectiveness of topical medications such as skin care creams and anti-aging products. It works well in combination with other facial devices and facial treatments.
